Black Friday 2008: Meh.

In a shocking development, the Abbott Family slept in this morning! As Luke predicted, after scanning all the sales at the local stores last night, there was little that grabbed our interest (maybe $20 worth). So, to getting up at 5:00am, we said, “meh.”

This morning we experienced Black Friday for the fourth time. It became a family tradition quite by chance in 2004, when we happened to go in to OfficeMax on Black Friday for some paper clips and ended up… Continue reading ‘Black Friday 2007: An Abbott Tradition’

Halloween, Blow By Blow

I’m not much of a party person—at least, when it comes to college parties. But, when the UCSC FPC (Film Production Coalition, a student-run club which I am a part of) invited me to a Halloween Night club party at one of the club leader’s houses, I said, “OK, adventure!”

Still got some of the gas

Here’s a story from the archives. I wrote it to a friend back in…gosh, I think it was around May 2006 or something. Early this afternoon the answering machine’s “pager” went off. I reached for the cordless but it wasn’t on the hook/charger, nor within eyesight, so I picked up the other phone.… Continue reading ‘Still got some of the gas’

Duck Enclosure

Poor duckies… the hawk danger has been present so when we’re not around to keep an ear out for their safety (which is rare) we put them behind this fence with lots of trees over them. They still have swimming water and plenty of room to forage around, but it’s not the wide open pastures they’re used to.

[Since this video was shot, we've taken down the wire fence; now we let them roam around a much larger (but still restricted) area of the yard, one with a relative abundance of tree cover. Fingers crossed, we've had no hawk attacks yet.]
