I have not been inspired to blog. For a few days I worked on a story but then it didn’t float my boat so I sank it. Kyle’s kept telling me to come up with something but nothing surfaced. Then he said, “Why don’t you write a post about that graffiti.” I replied. “It’s a business. That wouldn’t be appropriate.”…Continue reading ‘Cheap Thrills’

I had a discussion recently with a Christian friend of belief. Personally of course, pondering the process of believing is more curious than the content of any belief. So you won’t find me debating the existence of God, for instance; my question would be rather: How and Why does one believe in a God, or gods? Even more basic questions lurk deeper about the belief-in-words process our mind uses to formulate its belief in God (or any thing else) in the first place.…Continue reading ‘Think what you believe? Believe what you think?’
Last year, we noticed that the police began patrolling the beach and neighboring areas in ATVs. During the summer, every time we went to the beach—which was pretty much every morning because that’s were we do our yoga, karate, and t’ai chi—we were almost guaranteed to see a couple police on ATVs driving by.
Now, I know being a cop is a tough job and a lot of responsibility, but you gotta admit that driving around the beach atop those buggies looks pretty fun. It’s too bad they are gas-powered and not electric (and silent), but I digress…

Hand to mouth living habits slowly waned as I began to enjoy the comforts of more wealthy surrounding. For example, I began to treat myself to a weekly can of peaches. After some months this became a biweekly splurge. By years end I’d dropped all limitations. I’d buy a can of peaches anytime I desired. Whoopi!…Continue reading ‘Peaches and Pleasure’

Carl and Luke don’t care about fashion. In fact I would say they are oblivious to it. For them clothing is about comfort. Kyle is the same but with a twist. The three of them wear shorts, shirts, and vests which I pick out at the thrift store. Biology supplies the skin for their ’shoes’.
Kyle is a man of tradition and doesn’t care for change. The clothing he likes, he wears until it’s nearly transparent, worn thin and tattered with holes. …Continue reading ‘Closet Picker’
Sometimes I feel I’m the only man in the family with any sense in him. (Mama, of course, is not a man.) Let me explain.
Our backyard has an open area that has evolved quite a bit over the years. At first, it was an orchard with peaches, apples, and so on, but oak root fungus ended that over ten years ago. So Papa posed the question, …Continue reading ‘Wall-Dork’
