I Been Pwned [video]

[download high-quality MP4 video here] The story behind this video?

A few days ago, Kyle and I were in the garden turning over the ground between the garden beds, in order to aerate the soil and discourage the growth of weeds. We each had a different way of doing this; I was using a rake, whereas Kyle was using two “claw” tools. When we were down to our last two beds, we decided to make things interesting with a little wager. However, we couldn’t agree on the stakes. Finally, after 15 minutes of deliberation, I suggested that the loser should have to compose a “losing song,” perform it in front of a camera with the piano, and post the result online, within two days. The idea was for the loser to be humiliated—which, given our respective piano and songwriting skills, didn’t seem like much of a question.

So, one day late but true to my word, here is my losing song. Enjoy. (The title came from Kyle; if you don’t know what “pwned” means, see pwned on Wikipedia.)

Remember my friends, no man is a loser when he gives music to the world with a smile and a sense of humor (in this case in his words, if not in his demeanor – such pathos!). You were of course a loser on the field of string beans, but that’s another story. Or is that the same story? Anyhow, I might also point out that in the ancient tradition, it is always victor who is celebrated in song. Everyone remembers John Henry and his hammer; no one gives a thought to the guy driving the steam shovel (or whatever it was – see, I don’t even remember what it was). It is therefore incumbent on the Big “K” to give us a song of victory as well to even the score (no pun intended, I assure you). You know, a sort of a peppy tune on “How I done it” or “Clawing your way to Success.” On a martial arts note, the Rake vs. the Double Claws (two classic Chinese weapons) are a perfect duo for a fighting routine, and I will expect to see something the next time I come out west.

Thank you Wenzhong Russell and NowSeeker Laurie! We'd love to see you! We're leavin the light on. Cheers, Leslie
  • Oh, and Russell... funny you should say that, I did try out some of your staff routine with the rake (alone). It worked fine, of course, although I had to mind the ends more.

And props to Laurie for using the word moodle™ (Kyle says respect the trademark next time).

Oh, we so enjoyed the video and song around here!!!!

One of the teens here, thought that I said that the loser had to wear a thong!!!
Now that would be an interesting sequel to film for the next challenge ;-)!
Looking forward to more Abbott adventures,
    Jasmin and Co.

Kyle not only won the wager, he owned Luke.. that was some heavy duty clawing by Kyle. perhaps the next challenge is to do several rows and see if the tortoise and hare story plays out. :)

I downloaded the mpeg 4 and it doesn't play smoothly, it stops, jumps and starts again. I'm using quick time 7.2 I thought it could be the download got corrupted and downloaded it again with the same results.
