When? Now? It’s all in the eye of the beholder isn’t it? In fact our idealistic yearning for physical peace on earth is largely as symptom of our lack of inner peace. And ironically, the worldly chaos and wars we have is also a symptom of that inner disconnection we feel. The human by-path is that we think and feel we can resolve this through deeds and action.
Every year (or almost every year, depending on the year) we have a pizza party for the tenants. It’s shared housing but semi-seperate houses so usually one household doesn’t know the neighbors . . . well. That’s what the pizza part of the party is for! There’s something unique about it. You see, the ingredients of pizza all stick together when hot. The same is true for the people eating the pizza. Even though they (each household) don’t know each other, they kinda bond together like pizza does. Why? Well, since heat … Continue reading ‘Pizza! And Party!’
On Christmas Day, 2007, with the aid of driving instructor and mom Leslie, Kyle took advantage of the empty Costco parking lot to get in some driving practice. Luke reluctantly agreed to go along to film the proceedings when he realized he could bring and play his fiddle while Kyle was practicing. The result? A mildly entertaining video, I suppose…
A few days ago, we were without power for a day. Since most of the family is on the ‘puter much of the time (doing important business stuff, mind you) it was quite a change. Not that we didn’t have anything to do with the power off…
After taking a walk through the storm, we went home and pretty much spent the whole day in the living room. Papa read his backlogged supply of Science News. Mama read and played her fiddle. Luke read, played, and poured through a hard copy of a new songbook looking for errors. Me, I was constructing a frame to stretch shamisen skins on. Funny, throughout the whole shamisen construction, I never needed to use a power tool (save for a drill a few times). This was the only time where a jigsaw and sander would have been sooo nice to be able to use. But that’s another story.
The next morning we were in the living room again, talking about something relating to our classes. I was carving a bit of the frame (in the same room) when I looked up and I saw that the lamp was on. It was pointing in the direction of the window so, of course, before I even noticed that the power was back on, I thought: “Gee! Who left the light on and aimed at the window?” I reached to turn it off and then Mama exclaimed, “Oh! The power’s back.” Then it hit me.
While I’ve never liked the idea of a “non-profit” corporation, I do like giving things away, especially advice. And right now, I’ve thought of something that might put one in a special niche.
I’m talking about collegey stuff. Namely, degrees. Think of the millions of people who gone/are going to college to get a degree. With all those people, you’re bound to find two people who are trying to get degrees in the same thing. The more people in your field, the more special and profound your thesis has to be. Well, I think I might’ve found an untapped nook that has yet to be PHD’d.
Perfection! You know, you see people with PHD’s on Physiology, Medicology, Foodology, Hairology, but nothing on Perfectology. Just imagine, you could spend 4 years in college learning to be—and to make whatever you’re doing—perfect.
Kyle and I played a gig at Phil’s Fish Market on the 31st with our friends Billy, Sarah, and Pete. Here are a few snippets from a few songs Mama recorded.
