		<description>I did see Jurassic Park but don&#039;t recall that. But, I was struck by how duck like (we have ducks) they depicted the dinosaurs. Made it all much more realistic feeling, especially given the science of birds evolving from dinos.</description>

		<description>I love the pelican, I always root for the underdog.  When I go to the coast I watch seabirds dive in the water for fish.  They look so graceful and aerodynamic as they slip into the water with hardly a splash.  Then along come the lumbering pelican and with a plop he falls into the water. It would be wrong to call it a dive, more like a controlled crash, but hey, it works for him because he usually comes up with the fish. 

Now when the humble pelican &#039;lands&#039; in the water, that is a different matter. He spreads those huge wings and glides down to a near picture perfect landing.

As far as being a pterodactyl, did you ever see the end of Jurassic Park ?  they show pelicans flying
